Sunday November 29 – “Barns of Rose Hill Classical Music Series presents Marcolivia Duo” Barns of Rose Hill, 95 Chalmers Ct., Berryville. The Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff form the award-winning violin and violin/viola duo Marcolivia. The Marcolivia Duo appears frequently on NPR’s “Performance Today” and “Front Row Washington”. They are regular guest artists at the Tokyo College of Music, Japan, and have performed for the Federal Reserve Board in Washington DC, at the Cosmos Club, and annually at the Phillips Collection (where they are included on several CDs of Series Highlights and Distinguished Performers). December 5, 6, 12, 13 & 19 – “Holiday Season at Long Branch Plantation” This year Long Branch Plantation will be celebrating the holiday season with a special twilight tour of the home at 5:00 PM. Long Branch is also proud to announce that it is a drop off location for the TOYS FOR TOTS charity organization for the months of November and December. The holiday theme for this year is A Jazz Age Christmas. The home will be filled with decorations that will take visitors back to the “Roaring Twenties”. The Long Branch staff, along with the Greenway Garden Club, Little Garden Club of Winchester, and Winchester-Clarke Garden Club, will be decorating the home with 1920s era themed ornaments and items. Guests to Long Branch will be taken on a guided tour of the home that not only provides the history of the house, but will also explore the Christmas traditions of the 1920s. As visitors enjoy hot mulled cider and Christmas cookies they will explore the different rooms of the mansion and learn what types of materials and ornaments were used during this time of opulence in American history. Guests will be given a glimpse of how Jay Gatsby and others would have decorated during the holidays. At the end of the tour visitors are welcome to stay for a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas which would have turned 100 years old in 1923. Admission is only $10 for adults and children under the age of ten are free. If a new, unwrapped toy is donated to the TOYS FOR TOTS organization you will receive half off the adult admission for these special twilight tours. Every Third Tuesday – A newly formed group, “The Middle Potomac History Researchers”, which focuses on local history and genealogy research on the North Central Potomac River watershed meets at Josephine School Community Museum, 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The region includes the Virginia counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Clarke and Frederick; the West Virginia counties of Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, and Hardy; and the Maryland counties of Carroll, Frederick, Washington, and Allegany. We have particular interest in African American history. The purpose of the group is to share our knowledge and enthusiasm and to learn more from one another. The group is modeled after the central Virginia History Researchers which meets monthly in Charlottesville.
